Only 13% of Kentuckians voted in the 2024 primaries. This is the election that decides who makes the final ballot in November and big seats like the US Senate seat (McConnell's replacement) and the Louisville Mayor have many candidates this year. If people don't get enough votes in May, they won't have a chance to compete in the general election. Let's pay attention and choose who we want to represent us.
Make sure you are registered with your current address. You'll need your social security number to complete this.
Early voting is May 14th, 15th and 16th where you can vote at any location. On May 19th you'll have to go to your designated poll between 6am and 6 pm local time.
Absentee voting is a bit tricky and not everyone qualifies- look into this ASAP!
The positions and candidates you are voting on depend on your address and what party you are registered with. Registered as independent? You'll still likely have positions to vote on in the primary (like Louisville Mayor!).
Don't go to the poll without knowing what to expect.
Do your homework to learn who you want in office. We've included the link for a non partisan tool that compares candidates for Jefferson, Fayette, Warren, Boyd and Kenton counties.
Live in a different county? Often your local media station will do this for you, or just spend some time with Google and find your candidates pages. Don't go to the poll without knowing who you are choosing!
Joan's purpose is to move women forward, in any way we can imagine. We've decided to focus on voting this year for two main reasons:
1. We need people in politics who will make decisions that support women and other oppressed populations- voting is the way we get there.
2. Women working together on a common goal strengthens us- both individually and as a collective. It builds community, makes us FEEL what we are capable of, and has made the world a better place time and time again. Getting more people to vote is a tangible and important effort that we can all influence, no matter who we are.
We are asking ALL women, everywhere. Join us in getting your neighbors to the polls this year. We often hear about voting, but we don't always know exactly what that really means. We want you to learn what that means for your area and then help others understand the same- the dates, the candidates and the importance.
For our Kentucky ladies, we have all your resources to prepare for voting right here. We also have materia (below)l so you can support the effort with ease. Print and share in spaces you frequent, host a fun gathering and talk through your ballots (Ballot Brunch, anyone?), start a text chain with dates and reminders. Make sure to always ask for the next woman to carry the torch and keep the communication going.
If you are elsewhere and want to get involved, reach out and we'll help you as best we can.
Big things happen when we work together.
Patriarchy Schmatriarchy, Joan.
