Joan was formed in 2025 as a way to gather and wake women up a bit. The intent was to pay attention to the changes we needed to make for ourselves and gain strength, through each other, to live bigger and bolder.
We started with monthly events where women could come-as-they-were, have a learning/unlearning of some sort, and safely connect with others. Every month women showed up- they longed to feel seen and heard, and to sit in a space where they could work on something important.
Towards the end of the year, conversations shifted to planning for 2026 and the decision was made to mobilize around the things that really mattered. Then the SNAP cuts happened. Almost overnight, the women of Joan pulled off a food drive (with no wildly relevant experience) to support a local organization and ended up raising an estimated 25K+ pounds of food and supplies in the three weeks leading up to the November holiday. We got media attention and had lots of women asking about us- we knew we had struck a nerve. It was igniting and powerful.
This one moment solidified what the Joan ladies knew all along- that women are the best at solving problems. We are empathetic, brilliant and effective. We know can use those skills more strategically in our day-to-day and design a new world for ourselves. It will just takes getting together and focusing on it- insert weekly gatherings.
And the name? A nod to the OG feminist, Joan of Arc. To put it mildly- she believed in herself and did what she knew was right, even when so many others opposed and tried to stop her. We all have a little Joan inside of us- let's wake her up!
Today, Joan is taking steps to get bigger so we can impact more women. Connect with us if this feels important to you!
