Joan was formed in 2025 as a way to gather and wake women up, with the hopes they would realize- and drive- the changes needed to make the world a better place for themselves. After living the female punch list of experiences, and having an awakening of her own, Katey Piazza felt enraged enough by the patriarchy that she was compelled to take action. Her skills from a 20-year corporate career came in handy in figuring out how to move forward.
Joan started with monthly events where women could come-as-they-were, have a learning/unlearning of some sort, and safely connect with others. Every month, at every event, women showed up- they longed to feel seen and heard, validated, and to sit in a space where they could work on something important.
Towards the end of the year, conversations shifted to planning for 2026 and the decision was made to mobilize around the things that really pissed us off. Then the SNAP cuts happened. Almost overnight, the women of Joan pulled off a food drive (with no wildly relevant experience) to support a local organization and ended up raising an estimated 25K+ pounds of food and supplies in the three weeks leading up to the November holiday. We got media attention and had lots of women asking about us- we knew we had struck a nerve. We felt ignited and powerful.
This one moment solidified what Katey knew all along- that women are the best at solving problems. We are empathetic, brilliant and effective. We need to stop accepting the status quo and use these skills to design a new world for ourselves, and the female generations to come.
And the name? A nod to the OG feminist, Joan of Arc. To put it mildly- she believed in herself and did what she knew was right, even when so many others opposed and tried to stop her. We all have a little Joan inside of us, so let's set her free!
Today, Joan is taking steps to get bigger so we can impact more women. Connect with us if this feels important to you!
